3 Reasons Why Online Dating Doesn’t Work.

There’s no doubting that online dating has become the preferred method for both men and women for finding love and starting relationships. Year by year the number of people who access internet dating services continues to grow at amazing rates. But, while you may be thinking it would be simple to jump online and find a date because there are so many people to choose from, you would be sadly mistaken. It not that easy! And there are reasons why online dating doesn’t work the way it should.

There are any number of reasons why internet dating won’t work, but I’d like to highlight three of the most common. Choice, Honesty and Haste. Sounds like several characters out of a Charles Dicken’s novel, but no, seriously, these “characters” are the main offenders that can ruin your online dating experience if left uncontrolled.

Choice refers to the fact that many people join dating services before they even think about what kind of person or type of relationship they’re trying to find. They get online, start chatting to and emailing anyone who might show the slightest interest in them in the forlorn hope that the “right partner” will somehow miraculously appear out of the blue. Sure, it might happen, but there’s a far, far greater chance that it won’t.

Sitting down and making choices about what kind of person you want to meet is important. What kind of physical attributes does your potential partner need to possess? Are you more concerned about their stability, either financial or emotional, or does ethnic background and religion play a part in who you date? Are you searching for a serious or long-term relationship, possibly with marriage as the end goal? Perhaps you’re just looking for fun, “no-strings” relationships? Or, maybe you simply seeking friendship.

If you don’t take the time to make these necessary choices, more than likely, online dating won’t work for you.

The aspect of honesty when dating online is equally important. One of the biggest mistakes people make when using dating services is to be untruthful, namely, telling “lies” or making up stories on their online dating profiles. I suppose over-exaggeration might be a kinder way of putting it, but, in reality, it all boils down to the same thing! Common elements that people often “blur” on their profiles are occupation, marital status, height and weight, age and lifestyle. Doesn’t leave a lot of room to manouvre once your date discovers the real facts, and they will, trust me!

Being honest in all your dealings while dating online is a must. Otherwise, any relationship you want to succeed won’t even get off the ground if it begins with lies and deceit. If you think it doesn’t matter, then online dating won’t work for you.

The final roadblock to success with internet dating hinges around our ever growing need in today’s society to have everything right now. Instant gratification. There’s too much haste involved in the things we do – fast food, instant coffee, instant messaging, fast internet…and, inevitably, instant relationships!  What’s happened to old-fashioned courtship? Taking time to get to know the person you’re dating seems to be something of the past. Rushing into a relationship with someone you’ve just met is not a wise move and definitely a major reason why online dating might not work for you.

You want the best when it comes to finding love and relationships when using online dating sites. By remembering that Choice, Honesty and Haste need to be taken into account and dealt with, then, quite possibly, you’ll avoid becoming one of unfortunate victims of failed internet romance.
